We are broadly interested in evolution, with a special focus on viral entities. More specifically, we study their genome evolution and phylogenetic relationships; with special attention to virus-host co-evolution, the evolution and origin of specific genes, and phenotypic consequences of genotypic novelty. We currently focus a lot of our attention to so-called Giant Viruses within the Nucleocytoviricota, where we are looking into the evolution, genomics, and host-microbe/microbe-microbe interaction of Giant Viruses and their amoebal hosts.
